WHY THIS MATTERS
Anthropic signed a $35 billion deal with Lambda, an Nvidia-backed cloud provider, for compute at a Hut 8 data center in Texas, first reported by The Information and confirmed by Bloomberg and Forbes. The contract adds to other multibillion dollar commitments from the company, with Nscale, Fluidstack and SpaceX, totaling more than $175 billion in reserved cloud capacity amid Claude's accelerating growth. In this article
CONFIRMED
Anthropic signed a $35 billion deal to rent compute capacity from Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia, for a data center being built by Hut 8 in Nueces County, Texas. The deal was first reported by The Information and confirmed by Bloomberg, Forbes and reporting citing the Wall Street Journal, all published between August 31 and September 1, 2026.
How the deal is structured
The engineering behind the contract is unusual: Nvidia itself holds the lease on the data center built by Hut 8, after striking a direct deal with the company weeks earlier to lock in that capacity. Lambda comes in as the operator, installing Nvidia chips at the Texas facility, while Anthropic signs the $35 billion contract to consume that capacity and run its Claude models. In practice, three companies, Nvidia, Hut 8 and Lambda, combine to deliver Anthropic computing power it could not have secured alone as quickly.
Part of a much bigger race for compute
The Lambda deal is not isolated. According to the same coverage, Anthropic also committed $45 billion to rent capacity at Nscale's West Virginia data center campus, plus deals worth $50 billion with neocloud Fluidstack and $45 billion with SpaceX. Combined, these four deals top $175 billion in compute commitments, a push the company accelerated after facing a capacity crunch earlier this year, when usage of its products grew faster than available infrastructure.
Why Anthropic is spending at this pace
The race for capacity reflects the scale Anthropic has already reached: the company had been reporting an annualized revenue run rate above $30 billion in the months before this deal, growth that quickly exposed the limits of the cloud infrastructure supporting Claude. Signing multiple multibillion dollar contracts with different suppliers, instead of depending on a single cloud partner, reduces the risk of the company hitting capacity bottlenecks again like it did this year.
Why it matters for Brazilian agencies and SMBs
When one of the leading AI model providers used by Brazilian agencies commits tens of billions of dollars to compute, it signals that demand for Claude is expected to keep growing, not that capacity will run short for those relying on the API day to day. Still, it is worth watching closely whether this kind of spending translates into price stability and availability for smaller enterprise customers, or creates pressure for price increases, since a good part of that multibillion dollar bill tends to eventually show up in the cost structure of anyone consuming the API at scale.
