Brazil's Chamber of Deputies again postpones vote on AI legal framework

Even with the committee report expected on June 9, Chamber Speaker Hugo Motta again postponed review of Bill 2338, conditioning progress on prior alignment with the Senate.

Expectation vs. reality

Chamber of Deputies Speaker Hugo Motta had signaled that the Special Committee's report on Bill 2338/2023 — Brazil's AI legal framework — would be presented on June 9, 2026, with a chance the review could advance that same month.

Another postponement

The proposal was postponed again: Motta said the topic should not be reviewed that week and that progress depends on prior alignment with the Senate, which had already approved a version of the text in December 2024.

Where the committee stands

The Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence (Bill 2338/23) is chaired by congresswoman Luísa Canziani (União Brasil-PR) and reported by congressman Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB). No date has been set for the vote to resume.
