Nine days after shipping Claude Fable 5.1, Anthropic reportedly already has a much bigger model nearly ready. That is what leaker @kimmonismus, an X account known for anticipating AI lab moves, posted on September 5, claiming the company is preparing a heavy response to GPT 6 Astra, which OpenAI launched days earlier. The provisional name is Fable 5.2, though the leaker left room for a different label, including a jump to the Mythos line reserved for models with sensitive capabilities such as cybersecurity and biology.

What the tip actually says

The initial claim, from September 5, described a very imminent launch. Three days later, the same leaker revised the estimate to late September or early October, describing the model as the product of a new pretraining cycle rather than a minor tweak. No Anthropic document, API identifier, changelog entry or model card backs the claim so far. The company shipped Fable 5.1 on September 1 and has not publicly signaled any successor.

The deadline that already passed

The leaker's first commitment, embedded in a Polymarket prediction contract about a Mythos class model appearing, priced 74% odds of a launch by September 9. That date has already passed with no announcement, which weakens the credibility of the original window without necessarily killing the whole rumor. After the missed date, prediction market money moved to longer horizons: the contract on a new Fable 5.2 or higher priced 49% odds by October 31 and 86% by year end, with similar numbers on a parallel Manifold market.

Recent noise doesn't help separate signal

Confusion grew because, days before this rumor, users reported being able to select the old Claude Fable 5 in the Claude Code model picker even after it had been deprecated. Anthropic itself, through researcher Sam McAllister, attributed the episode to a UI bug and said it was serving zero traffic to that model. The case shows how UI glitches, caching and internal testing leak outward before any real launch decision, and why a name and date rumor deserves skepticism until a verifiable technical artifact appears, such as a model ID on Bedrock, Vertex or Foundry.

Why it's worth tracking anyway

Anthropic's recent cadence has been a launch every four to six weeks, and the company has historically answered OpenAI leaps quickly. After GPT 6 Astra raised the benchmark bar on September 3, it would make strategic sense for Anthropic to accelerate a Fable 5.1 successor rather than let the gap widen. That doesn't confirm the date or the name, but it explains why the hypothesis has traction beyond the account that started it.
