GitHub Copilot moves to usage-based billing and enables Fable 5 on paid plans

Since June 1, all Copilot plans use consumption-based AI credits; Claude Fable 5 arrived on the Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans on June 9.

New billing model

Starting June 1, 2026, all GitHub Copilot plans moved to usage-based billing via AI credits: the Pro plan includes $15/month in credits, Pro+ includes $70/month, and Max includes $200/month.

Fable 5 comes to Copilot

Claude Fable 5 became generally available in GitHub Copilot for Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise subscribers starting June 9, 2026 — the same day Anthropic publicly launched the model.

What it means for teams

The move to usage-based billing makes Copilot's cost more dependent on each developer's actual AI usage volume, rather than a flat monthly fee — a model other AI coding tools have been adopting throughout 2026.
