CONFIRMED: Mistral Python SDK 3.1.0 expands evaluations but requires integration review

The release adds evaluation and optimization queries, reorganizes workflow and dataset classes and changes connector fields. Compatibility testing remains essential.

CONFIRMED: better evaluation still requires integration review

Mistral published version 3.1.0 of its Python SDK on October 6. The software development kit connects applications to its platform. The update expands evaluation and optimization operations while reorganizing classes, types and signatures used by existing integrations. The practical consequence cuts both ways: teams gain a more structured way to inspect run quality, but upgrading without tests may require code changes. This canonical article incorporates the new release without presenting it as a model launch or a price reduction.

A result becomes more than an answer on a screen

The release adds beta operations to list evaluations and projects, search runs, inspect records and compute statistics. It also includes operations for viewing optimizations and their trials. These give teams a clearer interface for following application tests rather than judging an agent by one successful demonstration. A small Brazilian business with automated customer service could compare answers to common questions and identify when a configuration change harms the service. This is a potential use case, not a measured quality improvement established by Mistral in the release.

A renamed class can disrupt an existing routine

The notes report removal of the Runs class from the stable surface and a change in the Workflows.runs type to WorkflowsRuns. In beta, the earlier Records class is removed and Datasets.records becomes DatasetsRecords. This is not evidence that run or record functionality vanished from the service. It signals reorganization of the generated client. Teams directly importing these classes or relying on older signatures should locate those names in their integration and test equivalent calls. Authentication types also change, and evaluation models gain additional required fields.

Connectors and content need review too

The update removes system_prompt_route from responses for HTTP and MCP connectors. HTTP means Hypertext Transfer Protocol; MCP is the Model Context Protocol used to connect models to external tools. It also removes auth_direction from an authentication configuration. The release adds resource and resource_link content variants in certain chat and agent operations. These details matter when an application validates responses or constructs requests using fixed fields. They do not establish that a connector became unsafe, or that every workflow will be affected. Exposure depends on the features actually used.

A smaller release does not erase the earlier migration

Version 3.1.0 follows the major 3.0.0 release, published on September 28. The current package uses httpx2, while its MCP integration extras require version 2.2 or later, according to the distribution on PyPI, the Python Package Index. Teams still using an earlier line need to review that dependency foundation as well. Independent release catalog NewReleases confirms distribution of 3.1.0, but it is neither a compatibility audit nor proof that a particular application will keep working after the upgrade.

Observability matters when it prevents a real failure

A sensible approach for a small business is to pin the dependency, test in a separate environment and compare a stable set of cases before changing the live service. Observability means being able to inspect what happened inside an execution; it creates value when it helps detect failures and inform decisions. MaxAssistant’s assessment is that Mistral improves the building blocks for evaluating systems while still requiring attention from teams treating its client as a stable layer. The release provides no measured savings. Avoiding a customer service regression can be more valuable than simply installing the newest package.
